These
small drawings are part of a group completed between 1992 and 1998.
The earliest ones started out as sketches for larger, more intricate
pieces, but I found them very satisfying and began to see them as finished
pieces in and of themselves.
Most of these
works are inspired by the found paper or printed material that serves
as their canvas, and often several layers are involved, giving them
a sculptural feel -- they have weight and dimension.
The imagery
in each drawing reflects a human characteristic or an event that shapes
a person's life. In that sense they are portraits, and my hope is that
the viewer will recognize experiences common to all of us.
