The Site of Big Shoulders is a non-commercial, not-for-profit, all-volunteer online publication that features original content with a connection to the greater Chicago region by virtue of authorship or subject matter. On the Web since the summer of 1996, The Site of Big Shoulders (aka SOBS) showcases innovative art, writing, photography and music from leading creative people in and around Chicago, Illinois. The Site of Big Shoulders is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and has enjoyed this status since Dec. 1, 2004. The Site of Big Shoulders bases all editorial publishing decisions on the content's artistic, literary and social merits — never on its commercial viability or mass appeal. The low cost of Internet publishing ensures that SOBS content reaches an international audience free of self-censorship and commercial agendas. In addition to the hard work of its volunteer staff, The Site of Big Shoulders relies upon submissions from artists, writers, musicians and photographers to provide content for its five departments of Art, Chicago Local, Fiction, Photography and Poetry. The SOBS staff may solicit content directly from creators; The Site of Big Shoulders also accepts submissions and proposals via e-mail at submissions@sobs.org. (Click here for our submission policies.) The City of Chicago has generously awarded Community Arts Assistance Program (CAAP) Grants to The Site of Big Shoulders in 2003, 2004 and 2005. SOBS is actively seeking to expand its volunteer staff: Click here to find out more about working with SOBS. Thank you for visiting The Site of Big Shoulders — we appreciate your interest.
